Academic Learning Pods

Virtual and hybrid schooling can create anxiety for children and their parents. In addition to the academic challenges that attending school virtually or in a hybrid fashion can create, children are missing out on vital social interaction with their peers.

At NexGen, our highly-qualified and experienced Pod teachers provide a fun and safe environment for facilitating your child's schooling. Our pod facilitatord help students with their synchronous remote learning, guide them through lessons and assignments and provide them with socialization and enrichment activities.

We can either place your child in a pod or you can grab classmates, friends, or neighbors to create your pod of 4-8 children. Groups will be different depending upon needs and circumstances. For instance, pods may comprise same-age, same-grade and same-school children, have a mix of ages from families with multiple children, friends or neighbors and more. The reason pods can vary like this is that each child will be doing the work required by their own individual teacher. A Nex Gen pod facilitator will know what each child is working on and will be able to help each child individually as needed. Since the pod facilitator is not teaching a class, and is instead acting as support for each child, the age and town of a pod member can vary.

These pods will meet in-person during the school day, with a facilitator in either rotating homes or at an assigned location, such as the Nex Gen Center in West Orange.

The facilitator will keep students  engaged and on track, and will handle any school-related tasks and issues head-on. In addition, pod facilitators are trained in Google Classroom, Canvas and/or any other program needed to help students keep up with assignments and hand them in on time.

If desired, pods can continue to meet after school for homework completion, tutoring, as social pods or for enrichment.

All Nex Gen teachers have been thoroughly vetted, with background checks. They are certified in all subject grade levels that they support.

When, and if, your school adopts a hybrid schedule, we will be there to support you. We will create pods around your child's schedule to make sure they keep pace with their schoolwork and are supported.

Let’s face it, your kids need to have fun after being cooped up for so long. We know that keeping kids happy, busy and moving is important, and we are available to support you either one-on-one or in small groups. Activities will be age appropriate, and fun. We will care for your children, while you work and do the things you need to do. Social Pods can be virtual or in-person.

Our Pre-K pods for children ages 3-5 are lead by experienced Pre-K teachers. Pods can follow a student's own school's curriculum, Nex Gen's, or the pod facilitator's lesson plans. It is up to you. Nex Gen offers a robust literature-based curriculum. There will be breaks, One thing is certain -- there will be breaks, lots of fun and many giggles each day! NOTE: All students must be potty trained

TUTORING (one-on- one and small groups)

Our skilled tutors are available to tutor children in Pre-K to grade 12, across all academic subjects. Tutoring can occur after school hours, every day of the week including weekends.

Tutoring may be done one-on-one, or in small groups. Tutoring can be done virtually, in-person at your home, or at the Nex Gen, Center in West Orange, NJ.

Our experienced and highly effective tutors first focus for the short term on quickly improving grades and improving studying efficiency and for the long term, on helping children become self-sufficient students.

Enrichment classes are the perfect way to broaden your child’s experience with a vast array of wonderful programs. We design all our classes to expand children’s learning , creativity, and curiosity. Our goal is to enrich physical and emotional needs while enhancing the learning process. This also helps children develop social skills and grow more inquisitive every day.

We offer a variety of special interest classes including arts, music, movement, reading and more.

Enrichment pods can be add-ons or one-offs. Classes will be held from 6 pm to 7 from Monday - Friday and on weekends. However, if you would like to add on an enrichment pod to a learning pod at your home, we can accommodate that as well.

Stay tuned for a list of the available enrichment offerings. In the meantime, if you have a topic for a class in mind, please let us know. If you'd like to teach an enrichment class, please contact us and let us know what you would like to teach.

Sometimes students need support in all their coursework, not just in one subject. In particular, elementary and middle school students can often benefit from working with a tutor that helps them prioritize, plan homework time and complete assignments.

Likewise, a student will inevitably encounter tough assignments that leave them feeling confused or frustrated.

In these instances, a great homework coach can help students tackle these types of assignments, while also fostering self-sufficiency and independent learning skills.

This program can take place at our West Orange Center or in your home.

Many students are bright and have the desire to learn but still have difficulty in school. This often happens because they don't know how to learn properly or because they learn differently.

Students  may have trouble keeping their binders and backpacks organized, have trouble with note-taking or they simply don't know how to study.

At NexGen, first we determine the specific needs of the student by speaking to the parent(s) and providing a comprehensive assessment of the student's skills. We then create a program designed specifically for that student. Our experienced coaches will work with your child on active listening skills, note taking, and on how to effectively and efficiently study for tests.

We also focus on teaching time management skills, such as: what assignments should be tackled first; how to log daily/weekly time commitments; project planning; and how to break large and small assignments into smaller chunks. Additionally, we teach students how to become organized and stay organized!

The Drop in Study Hall club, which is a month-to-month program that's open to children in grades 5 through 8, is an affordable alternative to 1:1 tutoring.

Students that sign up are invited to come to Nex Gen's comfortable, unplugged spot in West Orange to get homework done without distractions. While there, our experienced facilitators will answer questions, and help students get organized and focused, and get their work done.

As a Study Hall member, a student can come in for homework help during Study Hall hours, as many times as he/she wants to in any month they are signed up. Spots are limited.

Note: This is not one-on-one tutoring; it is a guided study hall setting with homework help.

Note: Our math help stops  at pre-algebra.

Let Nex Gen run your child's next party at our beautiful new center, your home or at another location chosen by you. Our experienced party hosts will hold your hand every step of the way, from inception through the day of the event.
